summer projects, before and after

before, about 2 years ago

Well, we have done many projects this summer; painting the house, landscaping the front beds, fixing the gutters and planting new pots. We took a year off from major projects after tearing down the wall between our dining and living rooms, adding crown moulding, putting up a new fence and having a few large trees removed from our yard. But after getting up our courage again, it really feels like our home. It’s amazing what a paint color can do.

We still have some fall shrubs to plant on the side and maybe a small bed in the front by the tree, but I think for now, we are finishing up…finally! More →

My sister came up with the idea for Mother’s Day to keep with the theme of giving her a memorable experience. In previous years, we have given her a hot air balloon ride, sailing lesson, white-water rafting ride, and a trip to the Tacoma Glass Museum. We feel this that this lasts so much longer than any sweater or piece of jewelry. So after calling and emailing a bunch of local places, most of them wouldn’t take a person who wasn’t going to commit to months of lessons or just go because it’s fun. I honestly thought it would be a lot easier just to find one personal lesson. More →

My sister sent this hideous thing up from LA, a special offering to our three pups. On her last visit we had been shopping at Goodwill, a family tradition of ours, for some really ugly dog toys in the stuffed animal section. We were fortunate to find Monkey, Smurf and Frog. Now Ogre has joined the family. Jenna knows most of them by name and if you tell her to go get it, she picked out the right one most of the time. There is a rumor in the neighborhood that one pug knows up to 30 toys by name, so we are out to at least meet that record, if not break it. More →

hang on little tomato

little tomato

Somehow, that phrase is so calming to the soul, so humanizing, so comforting and safe. My husband has to remind me of this quite often as I sometimes get all worked up in a tizzy. “I have this and this and this and this and this to do….”

“Hang on little tomato.” More →

time to dive in

The summer is ending (I personally don’t consider it over until there is that familiar crisp feel in the air, usually mid-September) and the carefree days are coming to a close. It has been a wonderful summer filled with cookouts, dog parks, picnics, Seafair, sunburns, fresh veggies, family visits and gardening. Loved it. Many hints of peaceful moments and important connections with special people. More →
