holidays?

Are they really here? I have had the smallest tastes of them, even watched Charlie Brown Christmas with a big cup of warm cocoa.

But I guess I am a little sad because we didn’t better plan out our Thanksgiving. I had warm and fuzzy feelings prior to the actual day, dreaming of a sentimental simple day. But without a bird or even a home cooked meal planned, it felt a bit empty. I guess I was too busy and looking forward to a day that we wouldn’t have to do anything, that I overlooked at least making it a little special. More →

giving thanks

KivaWhile all of the ads on TV are shouting to “buy, Buy BUY!” I thought it would be much better to give. I had been wanting to join Kiva for quite a while and today I finally did. I donated to two women and one man all in arts-based businesses. One in Peru who makes jewelry, and two weavers, one in Peru the other Cambodia. I encourage everyone to give this wonderful service a try!

While in years past I have donated to Goodwill, KCTS, Dress for Success, Seattle Pug Rescue and the Humane Society, I have added a few more to my list today. KUOW (which I enjoy often), Amnesty International, and Women for Women International have now joined my annual list. More →

what love means to children

What does Love mean? A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, ‘What does love mean?’ The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think:

‘When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.’
Rebecca - age 8

‘When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.’
Billy - age 4

sadie’s b-day party

group
the pups and their people

To commemorate Sadie’s 1st birthday, Emily invited us to a Saturday get-together at the Golden Gardens Dog Park. My mom and I took Baby down from Edmonds (I had stayed the night with her, one of the last in the rental) and although a bit soggy from the rain, it was a fully packed park. Black labs chasing balls, collies rolling around in the mud, our pups all had pretty short legs and that sunk down in the muddy bark chips. Emily was kind enough to make cupcakes and goodie bags (clean scoop bags with tootsie rolls inside, very creative!) and it was a lovely gathering. See all the photos: More →

california ‘evergreens’

I just returned from a fabulous weekend in California visiting my sister and extended family. It was a true breath of fresh air as the highs were around 75-80 degrees while Seattle had it’s chilly 55. Taking a 4am shuttle to the airport (we had to be green!) my mom and I took a 7am flight to Burbank. More →
