A familiar scenario: An opportunity pops up and you are about to say “yes” once again.
This isn’t a once in a lifetime, gotta-hop-on-it opportunity. This is a let’s-keep-busy opportunity.
This time, stop and mindfully consider why you’re saying yes.
What would happen if you said no? A bit of disappointment? And what would the upside be? Could you read a book? Visit a museum?
Would saying no be worth it?
Your child or significant other turns away to work on a task. Quick: What do you do?
Do you pick up your phone? Browse Facebook? Think of something to post on Instagram?
Instead, look around you and start really noticing your environment. What do you smell? What do you enjoy? What do you observe your companion doing?
Maybe jot some notes down in your journal, but try to avoid the screen.
“There are times when we stop, we sit still. We listen and breezes from a whole other world begin to whisper.”
– James Carroll
